A small 5W combo that changes its expression with a single turn of the volume. We recorded the Greco GVA CUSTOM through its built-in speaker. First, let's look inside this one amp, whose insides belie its looks.
What kind of amp is the Greco GVA CUSTOM?
Greco is a Japanese brand. Since the so-called copy-model era of the 1970s, it has been known for its guitars. So an amp bearing the Greco name is something few people know. There's little memory of it sitting on a store shelf, and almost no shared image of "that sound" out in the world — which is exactly why it's worth recording.
The GVA CUSTOM is a small all-tube combo carrying that Greco name. A unit from 2008 (the year of production kept in the Kemper rig metadata). Not high output, not full of features. With the plainest possible layout — 5W, single channel — it's a design that leans toward letting you hear the voice of the tubes themselves.
Circuit and specs

A single-ended 5W on the 6V6. Not a design built to hammer out deep distortion. From clean to a light crunch, it plainly rings the region where the tubes just begin to saturate, even at low volume.
Controls
- Volume — level. The higher you push it, the more the tonal center of gravity shifts (see below)
- Treble / Bass — tone. These two shape the light and dark of the sound
There's no flashy master, no extra gain stage, no channel switch. The knobs are few. Which is exactly why the sound is decided by the interplay of Volume and Treble / Bass alone — a simple design.
The state of this unit (previous owner's swaps included)
A previous owner swapped the preamp tube to a Groove Tubes GT-12AX7-R, the power tube to a Tung-Sol 6V6, and the speaker to a Jensen C8R (8-inch). CSL didn't revert any of it and recorded it in that tidied state. So the sound you're about to hear is that voice, swaps and all — worth disclosing plainly before you buy.

The character of the sound, and the span the four settings cover
Push the Volume up and this amp's expression changes. Rung quietly it's a bright sound with edge; raise it and the tonal center moves toward the mids, the corners come off, and it settles warm. The distortion doesn't deepen — it stays just short of getting ragged. A 5W voice that suits home recording, clean-led playing, and a warm crunch.
On top of that, this pack pins the light and dark not with Volume but with four Treble / Bass settings (next section). Within the same warmth, you choose round, tight, or open — that's the design of this pack.
How it was recorded
We recorded it through the combo's own built-in speaker (Jensen C8R / 8-inch), speaker and all — not swapped to a 12" reference cab. This is the very air this small box actually rang. Standard profiles (no Liquid Profiling), no effects.
For the recording chain, the same DI signal is reamped through a Radial EXTC-500 to keep conditions aligned; the mic pre is a SymProceed SP-MP500, and the blend is mixed on a Soundcraft LM1.
Four amp settings
The pack is built around four settings that vary Treble / Bass. The values go straight into the names.

Mic and position are yours to choose
Each setting is recorded with 3 mic setups (SM57 / GT-67 / 60:40 blend) × Center / Edge.
The SM57 is tight and forward; the GT-67 thick and round; the blend in between. Center brings out the core, Edge is soft and dark. Even the same setting, choose by how you want to seat it in the mix.
